Treatment
Claire Mac Donald took her skills off to Africa to run temporary clinics to help Women and Children in Kenya. Over a 3 week period they set up temporary medical camps in a wide range of locations, from the slums and orphanages in Nairobi to under trees in the desert region of Pokot. Claire, who specializes in pregnancy care and paediatrics says that she learnt an incredible amount from her experience. ‘From a treatment point of view, things could be quite difficult. Many people were mal-nourished or dehydrated, we treated many mums for back and pelvic pain and helped a lot of children with recurrent chest infections. It was a great experience, setting up clinics under the shade of trees, where cattle such as cows and goats were grazing a few metres away! It was also very uplifiting to be so well we were received and to witness first hand how much good work does go on, on a volunteer and charitable basis – it was very heart warming’

Claire plans to go back to carry on this work for a short spell every year, but in the mean time will focus on working in her more comfortable and cow free clinic in Esher!
